We deliver in an unbroken cold chain, so the first minutes after the box arrives matter. Here is the routine we follow at home.
The 10-minute unpacking routine
- Open the box straight away and lift out anything that must go to the fridge (berries, leafy greens, cut fruit).
- Do not wash anything yet — moisture is what makes produce rot. Wash right before eating.
- Sort the rest by ripeness: ripe goes on the counter to be eaten first, under-ripe stays in a paper bag.
- Fold the box flat and keep the ice packs in the freezer for your next picnic.

Fridge or counter?
Counter
- Bananas, mangoes, papaya, pineapple (until ripe)
- Avocados (until they give slightly)
- Tomatoes — the fridge kills their flavour
- Citrus, if you will eat it within a week
Fridge
- Berries, grapes, cherries
- Leafy greens, celery, cucumber, broccoli
- Anything ripe that you are not eating today
- Cut fruit, always covered
Ethylene is your friend and your enemy: keep bananas and apples away from greens, or use them on purpose to ripen an avocado overnight.
